Intellectual Property (IP) protection allows people to control and be rewarded for use of their creative efforts. IP assets like patents, trade marks and registered designs can be bought, sold or licensed.
IPONZ is a business unit of the Ministry of Economic Development (MED). IPONZ is the agency responsible for granting New Zealand patents, trade marks and registered designs, and acts as a Receiving Office for Patent Co-operation Treaty (PCT) International applications on behalf of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

The Television Archive is the repository for most New Zealand programmes broadcast on television. Any documentary, news, or current affairs items may be transferred to video subject to copyright ownership. The price depends on format, duration and royalty charges. Archive staff can tell you what is available on a particular subject or person.

Plant Variety Rights Office
The Intellectual Property Office of New Zealand (IPONZ) includes the Plant Variety Rights Office, which manages the granting of plant variety rights. These give exclusive rights of commercialisation over eligible new plant varieties for a prescribed number of years. The office also provides policy advice on meeting the intellectual property rights and needs of plant breeders.
